With 9 pairs a single group was planned with every pair playing each of the other pairs in one game to 21 points with no setting. Pairs were awarded a handicap based on age, with one point for every 3 years the combined age exceeded 80. Unfortunately this meant the one pair was awarded 24 points and therefore technichally won every game without playing, so the handicaps were scaled back with the youngest pairs commencing on a negative score.
No pair managed to win every game, but Paul Ormes and Liz Osborne lost only a single game to take 1st place. The other pair from Weymouth Falcons, John Sedwards and Helen Webb were runners-up. Lower positions were very close and had to be decided on points scored where pairs could not be separated by games won. There were some very close games and long rallies, and some not quite so close!
