As in previous years the tournament consisted a single group, this time of seven pairs. Two games to 21 points (no setting) were played in each match. The pair who won most games (and most points in the event of a tie) won the tournament.
Each pair was awarded 1 point for every 2 years by which their combined age exceeded 80. The extra handicap for Division Two players was removed this year following discussion by the committee. The combined age difference between youngest and oldest pairs was only 25 years, one of the lowest ranges for many years.
Barry Harriss (Yeovil Graduates) and Debbie Gould (Weymouth Network) proved that you don’t have to be old to do well in the veterans tournament. Although not the youngest entrants they won every game to finish comfortable winners. The two eldest pairings finished in 2nd and 3rd places
