CORONAVIRUS - the league is temporarily suspended
Eight pairs contested this year’s tournament, playing in a single group as in previous years. Only a single game to 21 points (no setting) was played in each match, with the winners being the pair who won most matches (and most points in the event of a tie).
Each pair was awarded 1 point for every 2 years by which their combined age exceeded 80, with an extra 2 points added per Division Two player. With combined ages differing by as much as 50 years, some of the matches had to be adjusted so that no starting score exceeded 10 points.
The four oldest pairs by combined age filled the first four positions at the end of the tournament, with the relative youngsters of John Puckett & Wendy Field proving victorious ahead of Alan & Liz Jones, while Lester Cawley & Sandy Sheldon improved on last year to finish 3rd, with Dick & Jan Stevens coming 4th.
Lindsay Smith & Jane Reddaway also improved on last year, finishing in 5th spot ahead of Eric Samways & Gill Bullock (6th) and Paul Boggust & Angela Head (7th) because they scored more points in the games they lost, while Cliff Aston & Sarah House found it much too difficult overhauling the age-related handicaps, finishing in 8th place.
Thanks to everyone for making this an enjoyable evening.
The results of the games were as follows:
|Eric & Sari||Alan & Liz||Dick & Jan||Paul & Angela||Lester & Sandy||Cliff & Sarah||John & Wendy||Lindsay & Jane||Games Won||Points For||Points Against||Rank|
