Playing in a single group, every pair played each of the other pairs, best of 3 games to 21 points with no setting.
Unfortunately one pair had to withdraw leaving only six pairs to compete, but there were some very close games.
Mark and Debbie won all of their matches and finished in first place, though they were given a scare in their first match when Paul B. and Angela took a game off them. They almost lost their match against Paul R. & Amy but held on to win by the narrowest of margins, 21-20 in both games.
Paul R. & Amy met Stephen & Jackie in the final match which turned out to be the crucial decider for second place. This went to a deciding third set which Stephen & Jackie won, fending off a late comeback to take the game 21-20.

Sadly there were no entries.
Four pairs meant that this would be a small inaugural tournament, but it ended as a very close affair indeed. Only one match could be regarded as a slight mismatch with all the others either very close or needing a deciding game.
Indeed, Jim & Phil were so caught up in the tussle that they forget there was a "no setting" rule and finished a game 23-21 and had to do a count-back to see who had reached 21 first.
With everyone playing everyone else in a best-of-three format without setting, it fell to the very last game on court to determine who would win. Martin & Chris - with victory would come first place; with defeat they would be last. That’s how close this was.
In the end it was defeat, but only after a titanic struggle against Damian & Dave who themselves could have been champions but who had to settle for second place behind Paul & Mark.
